Two young children in Lancaster, Pennsylvania are being treated for serious injuries after being mauled by a pit bull terrier.
According to the Associated Press, the dog burst through a backyard fence and into a minivan where it mauled two children as they sat strapped in their car seats. A 2-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy were seriously injured. Their mother and others tried desperately to pry the dog off of the children. Tom Grab told WPMT-TV that at one point he was able to get the dog off the boy, but it wriggled free and continued attacking. Eventually, the owner came out and got hold of the 66-pound pit bull.
The boy’s face is seriously mangled, according to the AP. Witnesses said the 5-year-old’s face covered in blood.
"I mean he didn't really have a face when he got up. It was gone," Grab said.
The mother was treated for scratches, and her children are being treated for serious injuries.
The dog’s owner is cooperating with the police, and the dog is in quarantine. No charges have been filed, and the identities of involved parties have not been released.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the children.
