An aspiring model was celebrating her 21st birthday when she and her cousin were attacked with acid. According to BuzzFeedNews, Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar were seriously injured after being attacked on June 21 in east London. Police are now investigating and looking for the man allegedly behind the brutal crime.
The two were sitting in Muhktar's car in traffic when a man threw what is believed to be acid through the window. 37-year-old Muhktar tried to drive away but the suspect chased them. The car crashed into a fence and the suspect fled.
Khan took to social media to share the horrific incident. "The pain was excruciating I was struggling to close the window. My cousin struggled to get us away. I saw my clothes burn away in front of me," she tweeted.
Muhktar points to Islamaphobia as a possible motive. "I honestly feel that if this was a white person attacked by an Asian…It’d be all over the news.”
Authorites believe that 24-year-old John Tomlin is behind the attack. He is a white male, 6 feet tall, of stocky build and with fair hair. He is pictured below:
