"This was a poor mistake."

Police in New Mexico released body cam video of a man charged with leaving his three children in a car while he went inside a casino to gamble.

34-year-old Andrew Martinez was confronted in the parking lot of the Camel Rock Casino in Sante Fe County on June 1, according to KRQE/CNN. Martinez first told police that he went just inside the casino for 15 minutes to get some refreshments and a burger.

“So, if I go watch surveillance, you’re not playing a card game?” the deputy asked in the video.

“Yeah, I was,” Martinez admitted.

The three children who were left in the car were all okay.

“Do you think it’s a good idea to leave your kids out in the car for 20, 30 minutes while you go gamble a hand?” police asked Martinez in the body cam footage.

“This was a poor mistake,” Martinez said. He cried in the video.

Police arrested the father, and the kids went home to their mother. Police suspect that Martinez had been drinking, according to the report. He is facing three counts of child abuse through abandonment.
