Los Angeles Police mysteriously visited the grounds of fitness guru Richard Simmons on Wednesday, as Simmons was reportedly in the hospital recovering from gastrointestinal issues, TMZ first reported.
As police wandered his grounds, Simmons—who hasn’t been seen by the public since 2014 in a bizarre and sudden disappearance outlined in the podcast Missing Richard Simmons—was in the hospital with severe indigestion.
The visit was likely not a welfare check because the Los Angeles police were aware that Simmons was in the hospital, TMZ pointed out.
Simmons returned to his house on Thursday, escorted by Los Angeles police and with his face and body covered up with a blanket, The New York Daily News reported.
On Wednesday, Simmons made a statement for the first time in more than a year.
“Hello to everyone who has shown concern for me and sent their good wishes. You will never know how much it means to me,” he wrote in a statement to People. “Aren’t you sick of hearing and reading about me?! LOL Well by now you know that I’m not ‘missing,’ just a little under the weather. I’m sure I will be feeling good and back home in a couple of days.”
The mystery deepens.
