The town of Headley, a little over an hour southwest of London, fits most people’s notions of what a “quaint English village” looks like. However, residents there have been complaining for several years about a raucous pool party that occurs each summer at a local “mansion,” which turns the picturesque parish into party central. Now, it is a crime scene, after this year’s installment, which occurred last Sunday, ended in mayhem, bloodshed and death.
Reggae dancehall artist Braintear Spookie, whose real name is Jason White, had advertised the event on Instagram, telling party goers to “come and get some.” Residents of the town say used condoms are often found in the surrounding area following past events. This year about 500 people showed up.
Party planner Summerlyn Farquharson, who goes by the name The Female Boss Krissy, told BBC News, "At about two o'clock the crowd was getting unruly, I am not sure if it was the alcohol but by the time I got to the security I heard a gunshot, I saw people running, people were trying to get into the house.” Following the fracas, police found an unconscious man in his 30s with a gunshot wound. He later died at the scene. A female partygoer was also suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Police are holding two suspects at the moment though no further details have been released.
