Pregnant Teen Fatally Shoots Boyfriend In Youtube Prank Gone Wrong

The couple thought that a book would stop a bullet. Tragically, their 3-year-old daughter watched.

Pregnant Minnesota teenager Monalisa Perez was arrested Monday night after fatally shooting her boyfriend while recording a YouTube stunt. Perez, 19, called 911 and told police she accidentally shot 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz in the chest. When authorities arrived, Ruiz was found with a single gunshot wound. He died at the scene, according to Buzzfeed.

On Wednesday, Perez was charged with manslaughter in the second degree, and she faces up to a decade in prison.

Perez told police that Ruiz wanted to make a video of her shooting a book as he held it. She claimed he believed the book would stop a bullet, according to a criminal complaint.

The couple's 3-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting, according to WDAY. A 50-caliber gun was used in the prank gone wrong.

"I wish they wouldn't have done it. I wish he would've just done another prank. He was so young. He had so much going for himself," Claudia Ruiz, Pedro Ruiz’s aunt told WDAY.

The couple had uploaded several prank videos in the past.
