Philadelphia police have arrested a boisterous guitarist for allegedly raping a 14-year-old boy after a backyard BBQ.
Mike Tyler, 58, has been charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, and sexual assault according to Philadelphia Magazine.
The host of the backyard BBQ, a musician, told Philadelphia Magazine that Tyler, who goes by the name "Col. Mike Tyler," bragged about his celebrity friends to party guests all evening. One of the guests who was impressed by his stories was the host’s teen son. Tyler recalled stories of hanging out with Prince, Billy Joel, and Pearl Jam. Tyler had played guitar with all three bands.
The next morning, Tyler called the host of the party and offered to help clean up the mess. According to the father of the teen, that was when Tyler snuck into the boy’s room to rape him.
“He was really embarrassed at first and scared,” the father said. “He didn’t want to talk about it. I mean, he’s a 14-year-old boy. This is no easy thing to talk about. But I’m so proud of him for telling me.”
The dad expressed anger at the alleged actions of a man he considered a friend.
“He’s no friend of mine,” he said. “He’s a f*** and I want every musician he’s ever played with to know all about this. I don’t want him to get a gig in the worst bar in West Virginia.”
