Summer is here and as the temperatures climb, it's important to take care of your pets. A dog owner was arrested  in Texas after leaving his puppy in a locked car, with the windows rolled up, on a 100-degree day.

According to KRON20-year-old Chandler Bullen left the German Shepard mix in the car while shopping at Walmart. Bystanders saw the pet and called the police. When authorities opened the car with a crowbar, they found the puppy weak and panting. She was also covered in fleas and small wounds.

The puppy has been moved to a shelter in Austin.

When asked about neglecting his dog, Bullen apparently said he wanted to save money on gas. KVUE shares that he was arrested on charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals, which is a Class A misdemeanor. The puppy is reported to be 10 weeks old and named Annabelle.
