Rapper Prodigy's Cause Of Death Can't Be Determined Before Toxicology Report

Medical examiners insist this does not insinuate that drugs were involved in the death.

Legendary rapper Prodigy of Deep Mobb passed away earlier this week. Early reports suggested that Prodigy's chronic medical condition played a factor in the death; later reports suggested that he had choked on food during a hospital visit. Now, TMZ reports that an official cause of death can not be determined until a toxicology report is completed.

Although an autopsy has been undergone, the Clark County Medical Examiner says that nothing can be settled until the results of toxicology tests come through. Medical examiners insist this is not an insinuation that drugs were involved. The tests are routine whether drugs are suspected or not.

The estimation on the delivery of the results is about six to eight weeks.

Prodigy was taken to a hospital after a performance during which his security team noticed his failing health. It was assumed that the heat at the show (it was about 110 degrees during the concert) exacerbated the artist's sickle cell anemia and contributed to his dehydration. Later, reports suggested that he died in the hospital after choking on an egg.

Prodigy was 42 at the time of his death.
