A former high school teacher is accused of having a long-term sexual relationship with a teenage boy she met when he was in middle school.

According to News 5, 36-year-old Laura Lynn Cross had a three-year relationship with a student she met when she was his eighth grade English teacher. She has since had his child.

The teen's father says he had concerns about the former Buchtel High School teacher and told both school and police authorities back in 2012. No charges were filed.

Cross apparently even convinced the teen's mother, who had custody, to allow the teen to move in with her through a court-approved, partial-parental custody arrangement. The teacher apparently positioned herself as a mentor to the teen.

"First of all, she's a schoolteacher," said the father. "To get aroused by a child basically you have to be a sick individual."

Cross did resign from her teaching position in January 2015. School authorities in Akron said that they were unaware of the case until the current investigation. "It was a straight failure from the system," said the teen's father. "From the school and definitely from the police."

Cross was indicted for sexual battery. She is currently being held in the Summit County Jail under $100,000 bond.
