Second Wheelchair Bound Senior Robbed In A Week

Oversized thief targets wheelchair-ridden woman in second elderly attack in week.

By Benjamin H. Smith

For the second time in a week a defenseless, wheelchair bound elderly woman has been the victim of a crime in the Big, Bad Apple. First it was 93-year-old great grandmother Maria Vasquez, who was had $600 lifted off her last week in East Harlem by hair-bun sporting scumbag Broyoan Lopez, dubbed by local tabloids “the worst person in New York.” Now, not far away in The Bronx, security camera footage finds another amoral fiend taking advantage of those most helpless, in this case snatching the purse of an 85-year-old woman enjoying the sunshine outside her apartment building in her wheelchair.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in the Tremont section of The Bronx, less than 10 miles north of where Vasquez was robbed in East Harlem. The video shows an overweight women follow the elderly unnamed victim outside before running off with her pocketbook. Later she was caught on camera throwing away the purse itself after pocketing the woman’s cash and bankcard. Police describe the suspect as “a black woman, about 5-foot-6 and 240 pounds with a dark complexion and a heavy build.” They are asking anyone with information to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential.
