A 1-year-old dog was found severely beaten and malnourished in a Missouri dumpster, which led an area shelter to offer a $5,000 reward for information about her abuser, Fox4KC reported.
The injuries on the dog are so brutal that the shelter isn’t even sure what breed the female pup is.
“It’s been proven that there’s a link between cruelty to animals and cruelty to human beings so even if you are not an animal lover, cruelty like this should be concerning,” said Erin Morse, president of Midwest Animal ResQ, to the local news station.
The dog was reportedly found in a dumpster behind a shopping center in Raytown. The animal is healing now, but she is still covered with open wounds and recovering from mange, secondary skin infections and blood loss, according to the shelter.
“To get her into the condition she is in now, it took months,” said Morse.
The shelter has named the dog Iris because, the shelter said, they are hoping she blossoms into a beautiful dog after she recovers from her injuries and gets love and attention.
“Her red blood cell count is still very low, and her infections are not under control yet,” said a post Monday on the shelter’s Facebook page. “She is taking treats like a champ, and curled up in my lap for a cuddle. She will be in the hospital all week, and received another blood transfusion today.”
The shelter has a Paypal page for donations to the clinic, including to Iris’ medical care.
