Singer Sara Stokes' Dad Convicted In Child Sex Assault

Stokes starred on MTV's Making the Band

Singer Sara Stokes shared her story of molestation at the hands of her father with the Detroit Free Press last year. "I don't want to be the victim no more," the singer, known for her appearance on 2002's Making the Band, said about being abused at the age of 12. Her father has now just been sentenced for abusing another child.

According to the Detroit Free Press, 63-year-old Jay Christopher Miller pled guilty last April to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor under age 13 and a count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, second offense. On May 22, Miller was sentenced to 10-30 years for the first two counts and 10-15 years for the second.

The singer says the sentence is bittersweet. "It hurts me that it took this long for him to finally face the consequences of his actions and that someone else had to be hurt, too. I’m happy he is off the streets for that, but it’s bittersweet because it is my dad. I just hoped he would have gotten help before all of this."

Aside from being a part of Diddy's Da Band, 40-year-old Stokes was on the reality show From the Bottom Up. She is currently working on a biographical documentary.
