A California man is in custody after throwing his elderly mother out a window of the apartment they shared and then kicking and stomping on her until she died. Witnesses said they heard a loud verbal argument between the two in the wee hours of Monday morning, before it exploded into vicious and brutal violence. The killer, 40-year-old Fernando Vargas, reportedly jumped out the second story window after sending his 70-year-old mother Carlota crashing to the ground.
The incident occurred in Van Nuys, in the greater Los Angeles area. Neighbors who witnessed the attack said Fernando began stomping and kicking his mother, who lay powerless on the ground. When they yelled at him to stop he said it didn’t matter. She was going to die anyway. Neighbors say prior to the incident, the mother and son seemed to get along and were well liked in the community. Fernando Vargas suffered a leg injury in the fall and is currently being held on $2 million bail. His mother was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where she later died from injuries.
