A Baltimore elementary school teacher named Timothy Randall Korr is being charged with child abuse, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment of a minor after breaking the jaw of one of his students. Korr is now claiming that he was attempting to remove the disruptive student from class.
According to The Daily Mail, 7-year-old Trayvon Grayson suffered "broken jaw, cuts, bruises and had two teeth knocked out in the assault," after Korr attacked the child following repeated disruptions in class by the child.
Korr is claiming that while attempting to remove Trayvon from the room he tripped and fell, leading to the student "'hit[ting] himself' on the wall."
"He can't throw himself into the wall and fracture his jaw and lose his teeth," said Trayvon's mother. "He's only 7 years old. He's so small he's not going to do the damage to himself."
It is likely that Trayvon will be traumatized from the incident — his mother already reports that he's exhibiting disturbed behavior: "My son had dreams about it all last night. He's still shaking in his sleep, saying that he keeps having visions of (Korr) throwing him into a wall," she told WBAL TV.
Video footage contradicts Korr's telling of the events. "The video does show him carrying the child and slamming him up against the wall, and it's very difficult to watch. We cringed a number of times as we watched the video," said Baltimore police spokesman Chief T.J. Smith.
Korr has predictably been fired from his position at the school. He faces up to 85 years in jail for his crimes.
