A Missouri teacher has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually abusing his teenage student in a school closet. As People shares, William Nathan Herrington was sentenced on Friday after he pled guilty to statutory sodomy and sexual contact with a student.
The now-former teacher of Ash Grove High School in Missouri was arrested in October 2014. Following social media posts, handwritten notes and emails, he was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student. The sexual relationship took place in a closet in the school library, as well as in Herrington's home.
The student, who is now is college, told authorities that the 35-year-old married father inappropriately touched her and took advantage of her, per the News-Leader. She said that they met in the school closet at least 10 times, but she was too scared to tell anyone about the interactions. Her parents eventually found a note and messages from the teacher that were apparently sexual in nature.
"Mr. Herrington, you should have never done what you did to me," the student said in court. She shared that she was bullied, her grades suffered and had to undergo therapy due to the traumatic incident.
Herrington, who already surrendered his teaching license, must register as a sex offender.
