A 15-year-old is being charged with first-degree murder in the gruesome death of her mother. According to SaukValley, Anna Schroeder, of Illinois, allegedly shot her mother, Peggy, in the head and her friend allegedly set fire to their house to conceal the crime. She is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, concealment of homicidal death, and arson.
Investigators believe that Anna shot Peggy (both pictured above) on Thursday and told her friend about it. According to interviews with the girls, Anna used her mother's .38 revolver. She told her to put a towel over her face and then shot her in the forehead. She texted a friend, who has not been charged, after the crime, including a photo of the body. The two allegedly waited a day to clean up the scene and hid Anna's phone and gun at a cemetery. These items were eventually found by police.
According to KWQC, it was Anna's friend who set fire to the home. The girls told the detective they were planning to run away and had even dyed their hair colors in anticipation. A 911 call about the fire alerted authorities on Saturday. Anna then contacted Whiteside County Sherriff’s Office to reveal that said she had information.
As SaukValley reports, both girls appeared in Whiteside County court this afternoon. Anna had her initial appearance and both have a pretrial hearing Aug. 8.
