Trump Administration To Publish Weekly List Of Crimes Committed By Immigrants

Could this be considered anything but propaganda?

By Eric Shorey

In what is quite obviously a propagandist effort to incite hatred against minorities and bolster support for patently racist policies, Donald Trump's administration has decided to publish a weekly list of crimes committed by immigrants.

The decision comes on the tail of Trump signing a handful of anti-immigrant executive orders. According to The Independent, a paragraph in one of his many first-week executive orders called for the Department of Homeland Security to “make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens” throughout the United States. The Independent also notes that despite sanctuary cities like New York refusing to participate in a handful of programs that vilify immigrants, data from these areas will still be included in the lists.

Here's what the order actually says: "To better inform the public regarding the public safety threats associated with sanctuary jurisdictions, the Secretary shall utilize the Declined Detainer Outcome Report or its equivalent and, on a weekly basis, make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainees with respect to such aliens.”

Another important note: since the order is rather vague, immigrants who are here legally might find themselves on these lists (which is extra insane). And another note: the list highly resembles the "Black crime" section of ultra-right wing news site Breitbart (the staff of which now populates the highest ranking positions in the country).
