An Uber driver in Florida has been arrested after snatching a necklace off a customer, who he accused of not paying.
According to WFTS, Jared Combs and his friend called an Uber Sunday morning. Driver Alexander Troy had picked the men up from a friend's house and as soon as the men got out of the car, Troy freaked out.
Combs and his friend said Troy started peeling out and yelling at them through the window. Troy allegedly got out of his car and ran after the two, claiming they canceled their fare and didn't pay. Combs said he tried showing the driver their receipt. Then, according to WFTS, he said the driver ripped the gold chain his friend was wearing before driving off.
The necklace is valued between $3,000-$5,000, according to WFLA.
"You're supposed to use Uber for going home safe instead of being out here worrying about driving and all that. I mean you shouldn't have to be assaulted and robbed by an Uber driver. You're supposed to feel safe and all that, but I definitely didn't feel safe that night," said Combs.
Combs saved his Uber receipt which helped the police identify and locate the driver.
Pinellas County deputies arrested Troy hours later at his house. The gold chain was found in his car and he’s being charged with strong arm robbery. Police confirmed that the riders did in fact pay for the ride.
Uber has removed Troy as a driver.
