The wife of a Trump Organization ethics lawyer was arrested after she allegedly had sex with an inmate in a car outside a Virginia prison, The Fauquier Times reported.
Teresa Jo Burchfield, 53, was arrested after being discovered in the car with the inmate, who was allowed to work outside the detention center. Burchfield is the wife of Bobby Burchfield, who is an independent ethics advisor to Trump’s revocable trust, the agreement which put his eldest sons in charge of the Trump Organization.
The inmate allegedly had “unauthorized” cigarettes, clothes, and vitamins with him at the time of the incident, items which were apparently gifts from Burchfield, according to police.
The inmate had allegedly been meeting with Burchfield for a month before a deputy caught the pair in the act. The Sheriff’s Office did not name the inmate, according to the Fauquier Times.
In addition to being an advisor on the president’s trust, Bobby Burchfield also is the chairman of Crossroads GPS, a conservative nonprofit co-founded by Bush administration advisor Karl Rove that has been the subject of considerable controversy over its political spending.
“So this guy’s job has been, in essence, to engineer ways for the extremely wealthy to control our political system, which is why it's so amusing that he just got [ensnared] in a hallmark of poverty: being arrested for a bullshit crime secondary to a bullshit crime,” said Max Kennerly, a Philadelphia trial lawyer, on Twitter. “So, if you're listening, Bobby R. Burchfield and Teresa Jo Burchfield, you should know that we sympathize with you. We get it. And if you'd like us to stop making fun of you for it, we'll gladly do so... if you show a little sympathy for everyone else like you.”
