A Utah woman has been arrested for allegedly locking her two young kids in the trunk of her car while she shopped at Walmart.
"Several good Samaritans observed this and came to the aid of the children," Police Lt. Casey Warren told Deseret News. Riverdale police said witnesses heard the children, ages 2 and 5, making noise and saw the car shaking. The witnesses told the older child how to pull the emergency latch and they called 911.
According to KSTU, while witnesses waited for police to arrive, that's when the mother showed up and claimed that the babysitter failed to show up.
The mother, 39-year-old Tori Lee Castillo, was arrested Thursday evening when she returned to the car according to CBS News. Castillo is facing four counts of child abuse with physical injury and one count of theft. Her children were turned over to a responsible party, according to police.
