A woman has been arrested after authorities reportedly claim they found her living in squalid conditions with a child that was left "hungry and thirsty." According to WJXT, 23-year-old Maria Eldannaoui was arrested on Sunday in Jacksonville, Florida and charged with child neglect.
According to the arrest report, authorities went to Eldannaoui's apartment, which she rents, and allegedly saw unsafe and unsanitary living conditions, including a hole in the ceiling, feces on the floor, rotting food, several broken windows, and an insect infestation. "There were feces on the floor throughout the apartment along with old rotten food. There were bugs and larva on the floor and on the walls in the apartment," the arrest report said.
Officers also say they found drug paraphernalia.
Eldannaoui was booked into the Duval County Jail. The Department of Children and Families was notified.
