A 42-year-old woman named Kavonceya Iman Cornelius was arrested in Salisbury, NC, on Monday after allegedly giving a woman silicon injections that led to her death, FOX 5 News reports. Cornelius has no medical degree or license, but has been giving injections out of her home that cost between $500 and $1200 for her customers.
The victim was 19-year-old Eugene Jones II, who died in mid-January from silicon that had traveled to her lungs and heart. Jones was a transgender woman who went to Cornelius for injections in her butt, but the material entered her bloodstream. The investigation led to Cornelius after another woman notified police that she, too, had seen Cornelius for injections as well, and had ended up in the hospital with silicon in her lungs.
That woman, Kaniya Eboni Bernard told police that she had seen Cornelius 15 times with no incident, but during her last injection, she notified Cornelius that it would be her last visit. Bernard believes that Cornelius deliberately botched her procedure as retaliation against her for ending their business arrangement.
Cornelius is being held in RC Detention Center on no bond.
