Woman Charged With Faking Her Kidnapping On Facebook

"this is not a joke."

What started as an online prank has turned into serious criminal charges. A 24-year-old woman faked her kidnapping on Facebook, claiming she was held captive inside the trunk of a man's car, and now police are holding her for filing a false police report.

According to WLos24-year-old Markeisha Tachelle Johnson of Ashville, North Carolina shared the fake crime on her Facebook page on Monday. "Please help me this is not a joke," she wrote, stating the man also had a gun and that her phone was dying. The post was shared over 700 times by concerned family and friends.

It's unclear what the motive was behind creating this fictional story.

Police arrested Johnson on Tuesday and she's being held on a $1,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for Dec. 7.
