Jason Eric Eaton, 43, of Greensburg, Indiana went to his girlfriend Wendy Sabatini’s house last Tuesday intending to make her his wife. Instead he made her his victim. The 44-year-old single mom was already once divorced and in no hurry to get hitched again, so she said “No” to his marriage proposal before he could even finish getting the words out. That’s when he got a gun out from Sabatini's bedside table and shot her in the back of the head.
Eaton then fled the crime scene and went to a female acquaintance’s house, telling her “that he messed up and he thinks he killed Sabatini,” according to a police affidavit. The woman then took him to the Greensburg police where he made a full confession. Incredibly, when police arrived at the residence, they found Sabatini’s 18-year-old son eating dinner, unaware that his mother’s dead body lay in the bedroom upstairs.
Wendy Sabatini was remembered by her friends and family as a fun-loving woman who always “stood her ground,” according to her sister Heather Rasmus. Wendy’s son Lake called her “a wonderful person,” and someone who “anybody instantly would fall in love when you met her.”
Despite his confession, Eaton has plead not guilty to the charge of murder. He is currently being held without bond. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 65 years.
