A new tell-all series coming to Peacock later this year will bring audiences into the dark underbelly of a cultural phenomenon.

Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story is a three-part documentary, premiering on Peacock on December 3, 2024, that dives into the multi-million-dollar empire of Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis. According to the show’s official description, Francis’ franchise — advertised on late-night television in the early 2000s before the rise of social media — was “a virtual ground zero for ‘Bro Culture.’”

“The company originally presented itself as a series of tapes featuring the ‘girl next door’ having a wild time at spring break,” according to a recent press release obtained by Oxygen.com. “But what was truly happening under the surface was much darker, including allegations of sexual coercion and exploitation.”

What to know about Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story

Before the days when the public could so easily access online porn, Joe Francis’s “inescapable” Girls Gone Wild videotape series featured “young spring breakers baring their breasts for T-shirts and hats,” a seedy but wildly popular concept that “had a shocking grip” on millennial culture.

The new Peacock exclusive also includes one-on-one conversations with Francis, who ultimately experienced a fall from grace.

“Including Francis’ first in-depth, in-person, on-the-record interview with a journalist in almost a decade, as well as exclusive access to his former employees, enemies, and survivors, Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story offers an astonishing and wide-ranging account of a man whose impact on American culture cannot be overstated, whose alleged sins are numerous, and who now lives in exile on a sprawling estate in Mexico amidst the rubble of his once mighty empire,” according to the Peacock description.

Producer and BuzzFeed writer Scaachi Koul conducted hours of interviews, obtaining never-before-seen video and audio, including from Francis himself.

The trailer for Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story dropped Wednesday, November 20, 2024, giving audiences a front-row seat into Francis’ lavish lifestyle and his rubbing elbows with some of Hollywood’s elite. Of course, it also highlights Francis' controversies, including allegedly crossing ethical and legal lines by exploiting minors.

“It blew my mind what Joe Francis was able to convince these young girls to do,” one man told producers.

A commentator reports Francis currently lives as a fugitive, agreeing to be interviewed after nearly a decade in exile. The trailer ends with a teaser when the interviewer asks, “Do you feel bad for the girls?”
