Hilary Dattilo, a 30-year-old teacher and volleyball coach in Butler County, Ohio, is being charged with sex crimes involving a minor after her secret relationship wtih a female student was discovered, according to WHIO.
Dattilo was arraigned on Tuesday in Butler County Common Pleas Court. The charges, specifically, include one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a first degree misdemeanor.
Hamilton Police Sgt. Brian Robinson says the crimes occurred off of school property between November 1st and November 22nd. The contributing charge occurred between Oct. 1 and Dec. 18.
Dattilo surrended herself to police without incident. She has pleaded not guilty and was given a $5,000 bond with the ability to post 10 percent. Her attorney managed to argue for a low bond given her lack of prior criminal behavior.
"A mother of a student at Hamilton High School was concerned about a possible inappropriate relationship that a staff member was having with her daughter, so she notified the school administrators at Hamilton High School," Robinson said, explaining what sparked the investigation, which began immediately after the report from the parent.
Dattilo has been temporarily suspended until the investigation is completed.
“Parents entrust their children to us everyday, which is something we take very seriously. The safety of children is always our first priority. As a result of an ongoing investigation conducted collaboratively with the Hamilton City Police Department, the Hamilton City School District has placed a teacher at Hamilton High School on administrative leave pending termination proceedings. Simply put, we will not tolerate behavior that places our children in jeopardy," said Joni Copas, the district director of communications, in a statement.
According to Journal News, Dattilo faces a pre-trial hearing on Feb. 8 before Judge Noah Powers.
WLWT adds that Dattilo had previously played volleyball profesionally and was employed as both the school's varsity volleyball team and the head coach of the junior varsity team. She also taught science. She lives in Butler county and has no criminal record. Both her mother and husband were present for the araignment. She was noted as having "strong family ties."
