Two Texas drivers turned a minor fender bender into an open shootout yesterday when both took out pistols and began firing, injuring a bystander and one of the drivers, ABC News reported.
The standoff, at 2:45 PM Wednesday, was partially captured on video by two ABC journalists who happened to be at a nearby Starbucks. They drove toward the gunshots as they rang out. By the time both arrived, the shots had ended, but both men continued to wave guns at each other.
Beyond the accident, it’s unclear how the conflict escalated to the point of gunfire.
One of the journalists and a nearby off-duty paramedic assisted a woman who had been grazed in the head by one of the bullets, helping to stop the bleeding until ambulances came to the scene.
Both men were taken into custody, and the wounded shooter, who was shot in the chest, was transported to a nearby hospital.
"If you get into an accident, call the police, or drive to a gas station to wait," said Gerzain Garcia, one of the journalists who saw the incident. "Don't start shooting at each other. A bystander who had nothing to do with this was injured. And it could have been even worse."
