A man from Port St. Lucie, Florida allegedly attacked his girlfriend while she was showering after he became enraged upon discovering that she ate the last chocolate chip cookie.
Richard Anthony Hessic allegedly told police he became upset when he realized that all the chocolate chip cookies in his home were gone. He confronted his girlfriend about it, who seemed less concerned, according to Fox 13. Instead, she cracked a joke about reviewing surveillance cameras to find the cookie culprit. She allegedly told him that she didn’t want to fight “over something so petty.” According to an affidavit, she even offered to buy a new batch of cookies.
She then she went to take a shower, but Hessic, 31, wasn’t done fighting over cookies. He allegedly followed his girlfriend of three years into the bathroom and assaulted her.
“He felt she was blowing him off so he ripped down the shower curtain,” the arrest affidavit states, “and punched her on the left side of her face.”
He tried to flee but was met with police officers in the driveway, according to WPEC.
Hessic was subsequently arrested on battery charges. It is unclear if he has a lawyer that can speak on his behalf at this time. Police did not find visible swelling or bruising on his girlfriend’s face as a result of the incident. He was released on December 15, a day after his arrest, on a $15,000 bond, according to Fox News.
