The body of a North Carolina toddler who vanished after her mom tucked her into bed last week, may have been found. On Saturday, the FBI announced the discovery of human remains believed to be 3-year-old Mariah Woods. They were found by a dive team, according to CNN, in a creek near a highway.
Shelley Lynch, who works with the FBI in Charlotte, told CNN that a medical examiner still has to confirm the identity of the body.
Another new development in the case: the arrest of 32-year-old Earl Kimrey. He is Woods’ mother’s live-in boyfriend and he has been charged with the little girl’s disappearance, according to ABC11. He was brought into custody on Friday.
After Woods disappeared her mother made an emotional plea to find her.
“Please, bring her back,” Kristy Woods said at a news conference last Monday. “She’s my baby, she's my everything. [...] Just to be able to touch her and hold her and not let her go again,” she said. “I’d give anything.”
She called her an angel.
Sadly, even before a body was found, the local sheriff’s office released a statement which said, "Due to evidence gathered during the course of the investigation, it is believed that Mariah is deceased.”
