As we prepare for our inevitable Halloween hangover, we revisit Corpse Revivers, a whole family of cocktails designed to be hangover cures (and perfectly named for a murder-themed podcast).

We’ve had a gin-based Corpse Reviver #2 on the show before, but the OG Corpse Reviver was a Cognac-based drink. 

This one has:

1 ounce Cognac Frapin
1 ounce Laird’s Applejack
½ ounce Antica Formula sweet vermouth


Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker, shake until cold, and serve straight up. 

This week’s episode is about serial killer Israel Keyes, who among other things, was a huge fan of Insane Clown Posse. As any good Juggalo would know, ICP is obsessed with Faygo, a soda made in Detroit. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give John Thraser, who sometimes wants this podcast to turn into “Soda Pop & Murder” a soda — although since we are based in NYC it had to be a Fanta. Now I imagined Matt the Bartender would at least give him some ice, but instead, he just handed him a bottle of semi-cold Strawberry Fanta. Sorry, John!

I felt even worse when I heard John and Daryn Carp had to hear about an “engorged tick” in Matt the Bartender’s butt. We all need a strong drink to get through that story.
