Martinis & Murder Cocktail Recipe: Definitely Not A Poisoned Blueberry Margarita

Pair this fruity take on a classic with episode # 93, “A Rom-Com Murder.”

By Gina Pace

Have you seen the very 1990s movie “Practical Magic” starring international treasures Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman?

Well, if you haven’t, change that, but in the meantime here’s what you need to know: The actresses play a pair of sisters who poison a creepy dude by putting Belladonna, a dark berry, into his tequila.

It inspired Heather Miller, the subject of episode #93 “A Rom-Com Murder” to try the same thing on her husband, and also inspired Matt the Bartender to take a trip to a “new-age homeopathic store” for some “special berries” just for John Thrasher.

If you want to your guests — and enemies — to think that you might have poisoned them, make this blueberry margarita which was inspired by a recipe we found in Food & Wine. Belladonna is optional.

¼ cup fresh blueberries
2 tablespoons lime juice
½ cup tequila
3 tablespoons simple syrup
Orange bitters

Muddle the blueberries with the lime juice until they are pretty smashed up. Shake the blueberry mix with tequila, bitters and simple syrup with ice, and then strain into a glass over fresh ice.

Sip while listening to see what happened to Miller’s husband after he had a special cocktail:
