The sisterhood is back! Last year, we were introduced to five fearless, ambitious and driven female emcees making their way to the top of hip-hop. On June 9th (9/8c), the ladies return to Oxygen for Season 2. They're back with new songs, new career moves, new celebrity mentors and—yes--new drama. No one said being a femcee was easy. Before the big premiere, we caught up with our fabulous five: Bia, Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, Brianna Perry and Diamond.
Bia is making big moves. Last season, we saw the rapper link with her mentor (super producer Pharrell Williams),release her Latin-infused “La Tirana,” and sign a record deal with RCA Records…all the while dealing with issues back home in Boston. But signing on the dotted line with a major label is just the beginning. Even with Pharrell by her side, Bia has to show and prove. She’s been actively in the booth recording new tracks and has performed overseas. She recently came back from Hong Kong! It isn’t all work and no play, however. Bia has been dating music video director Magic. We’ll get a peek into their budding romance in Season 2.
Drama followed Siya throughout Season 1. When she wasn’t dealing with challenges of being an independent artist—despite being signed to singer Tank—the outspoken rapper was dodging ongoing domestic issues with her girlfriend Renaye. Still, Siya forged on. She’s left her home turf of New York City for sunny Los Angeles and continues to work with Tank. Her relationship with Renaye is over, and her Better Late Than Never mixtape clocked over 75,000 downloads in its first day. As the “first openly gay female rapper,” Siya has the eyes of the industry and the world on her.
Nyemiah Supreme has been living up to her name. After impressing Timbaland in season one, the Queens rapper has been actively working on her Happily Ever After album. When she’s not performing with fellow Sisterhood friend Siya, the fiercely independent rapper has let her guard down and opened up her heart to love. Yup. That date with actor/singer Mack Wilds from Season 1 has turned into something more.
Brianna was the queen of hustle last season. The Miami sweetheart graduated from college—with honors—and found time to get into the studio with heavyweights like Rick Ross and DJ Khaled, and balance her sometimes-contentious relationship with her momager Kiki. But the overachiever has hit a major wall. Her team at Atlantic Records is no longer there, leaving Bri hanging. What do you do when your team isn’t on your team anymore? At a standstill, Brianna Perry wants answers.
It’s been a whirlwind for Diamond. Last season, she left the comforts of Hotlanta to move to New York City. Since then, Diamond’s world has been turned upside down. Her manager Bryan is now serving time in prison and her relationship with his replacement just isn't the same. She wants to work on her brand—endorsement deals, a calendar, Diamond phone cases—but her new manager isn’t exactly with it. At least her love life is looking up. After movnig on from rappers Soulja Boy and Scrappy, Diamond found her a nice, normal dude. She’s been dating Payro, who she met while pumping gas at a gas station in Atlanta…while wearing sweatpants. He’s a keeper!
Watch a Sneak Peek of Season 2, and tune into the premiere June 9 at 9/8c!
