    In December of 2013, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna began filming a documentary focusing on the armchair detectives who became increasingly obsessed with Maura Murray's disappearance. Their first adventure was a trip to Quebec with True Crime Addict author James Renner in an attempt to physically find Maura based on tips he received online. In July of 2015, Tim and Lance began the Missing Maura Murray podcast in the hopes to further their documentary and meet more people who fit the obsessed profile. The podcast netted over nine million downloads in two years and more importantly, brought them success in meeting more like-minded individuals as well as raising awareness for the case. Now the podcast continues with the goal to make a difference in the mysterious disappearance of Maura Murray.

    Former US Marshal Art Roderick has extensive experience tracking down criminals who have eluded justice in some of the highest profile cases in US history, including the escape from Alcatraz, Ruby Ridge, and the DC Sniper.  With over 40 years of experience in law enforcement, he spent over 25 years as a US Marshal and has also worked for the Department of Justice, The Department of Homeland Security and as a Massachusetts Police Officer. He also appears on CNN as a law enforcement analyst. Over the last year, Art has earned the trust and confidence of the Murray family and hopes to bridge the gap and secure an open dialogue between the family and law enforcement while gaining access to Maura’s case file which is currently sealed by various state agencies. He serves as an Executive Consultant on “The Disappearance of Maura Murray.”

    James Renner

    James Renner is a journalist, former reporter for the Cleveland Scene and author of nonfiction thriller, True Crime Addict: How I Lost Myself in the Mysterious Disappearance of Maura Murray, the story of his spellbinding investigation of the case. He is the man behind countless theories regarding her disappearance and is the author of popular blog - “My Search for Maura Murray.”  His records related to the disappearance of Maura Murray can be viewed by the public at the Special Collections Archive in the library on the campus of Kent State University.

    As a crime reporter for Cleveland Scene, James uncovered new clues and suspects in the cold-case murder of Amy Mihaljevic and his work led to the successful closure of the Tina Harmon case in 2009. He spent months researching the Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus abductions when the girls were still missing and is haunted by the fact that he had Castro’s name in his notes.    His true crime stories have been published in the Best American Crime Reporting and Best Creative Nonfiction anthologies. James has also published two novels, The Man from Primrose Lane and The Great Forgetting and has contributed to online culture sites such as Cracked, Boing Boing, and BookRiot. True Crime Addict is also being adapted for television by Richard Price and Johnny Depp.

    Maggie Freleng

    Maggie Freleng is an investigative journalist based in New York City focusing on mental health, social issues, gender and sexuality.  The vanishing of Maura Murray hits close to home for Maggie as she attended the same university as Maura.  Maggie brings a passion to this project not only because of her connection to Maura but also because her dedication to advocate for the at least 70,000 missing women in this country (Source: 2013 NCIC Missing Persons. Females 18 and over). She strives to provide an unbiased voice of clarity in what she hopes will be the definitive investigation to find justice for Maura and her family.

     

    As a multimedia journalist, she is the producer of The Guardian’s What Would a Feminist Do with Jessica Valenti and is an assistant producer at WNYC.  She was a producer for NPR’s Latino USA and is a former NPR Next Generation Radio fellow. Her work has been featured on WNYC, NBC New York, NPR’S Latino USA, WHYY, WHYY’s The Pulse, Popular Science, Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, and Voices of New York. She was the New York blog correspondent for Stop Street Harassment and was a production assistant at WAM! (Women, Action, and the Media). She was also the producer of Audio Files, a live hour-long radio show which airs bi-weekly on WHDD and WHCR.

    She graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and English from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and earned her master’s in Health & Sciences with a focus on Radio Broadcast from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
