Martinis & Murder host John Thrasher wants fall drinks for Halloween, so autumnal drinks we will have.
Get in the Halloween spirit with the Cold Comfort, a spiked cider on ice, made with the very spooky Crystal Head vodka. This year, we tried out the Aurora version, which is made with wheat so it’s a bit spicier than their standard version. It comes in an iridescent skull bottle which Daryn Carp took home (her apartment has got to be lined with all sorts of skull paraphernalia). We also tossed in some Mount Gay (John jokes it’s his favorite mount) Black Barrel Rum to give it some depth.
You can serve it warm — and just call it Comfort — but one advantage to serving it cold is to keep you cool during any Halloween festivities.
Here’s how to make it:
1.5 ounces Crystal Head Vodka
1 ounce Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum
4 ounces apple cider
Cinnamon sticks and apple slices for garnish
Mix the vodka, rum, and apple cider in a cocktail shaker with ice, and then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick.
Sip on it while listening to the tragic case of Matthew Sheppard.
