There are many famous people who have gotten to where they are today based solely on their good looks and their acting talent. Or, in some cases, maybe just their good looks! Then, there are some famous people who end up excelling in school and sometimes, even having genius IQ’s! Here are some celebs you probably had no idea were serious academics and in some cases, real geniuses:
1. Natalie Portman
Perhaps the most well-known for her big brains of anyone on this list, Natalie Portman has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Harvard and has always taken her studies quite seriously. She even skipped the premiere of her movie, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, so she could study for her high school finals. That’s serious dedication from a celebrity teen!
2. Cindy Crawford
Cindy was valedictorian of her high school class and attended Northwestern University as a chemical engineering major before dropping out to pursue modeling. Cindy is well-known in the industry for being extremely intelligent, and has succeeded in many business ventures outside of modeling throughout her career.
3. Lisa Kudrow
Even though she played the goofy Phoebe Buffay on Friends, Lisa Kudrow is insanely smart! She has a bachelor’s in biology from the prestigious Vassar College and once wanted to research headaches before becoming a successful actress. Who knows what her contributions to modern science would have been but we sure are glad she brought us “Smelly Cat”!
4. Conan O’Brien
It’s no surprise to find out that Conan O’Brien has always been the academic type. You can tell from his television host persona that he’s highly intelligent and thinks quickly on his feet. He was the valedictorian of his high school class and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard with a degree in history and literature.
5. Mayim Bialik
Mayim Bialik convincingly played a neuroscientist on The Big Bang Theory which is no surprise...because she actually is one! Although accepted at both Harvard and Yale, Mayim chose to attend UCLA where she majored in neuroscience, Hebrew studies and Jewish studies. Now that's art imitating life!
6. James Franco
James initially left UCLA in order to pursue his acting career but returned to get his degree and graduated in 2008. He is currently a PhD student in English at Yale. Talk about dedication to academia!
7. Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster is a life-long genius, having learned to read at the age of three. She graduated as her class valedictorian at a French-language prep school and received her college degree in literature from Yale. She is fluent in French and returned to visit the school as a graduation speaker and recipient of an honorary doctorate in 1997.
8. Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Tarantino has an IQ of 160, the same as physicist Stephen Hawking. Judging by the extensive list of complex films that he’s created, that IQ has been put to incredible use despite no formal college degree.
