It ain't easy being Beyonce. Sure, she's literally, well, Beyonce, but being an icon isn't all it's cracked up to be. The details of her life — whether it's her marriage problems or even just her birthday cake — regularly become front page news, and as a result, the Lemonade singer is known for going to great lengths to protect her privacy. Just ask Ed Sheeran, who collaborated with Queen Bey on the recently released duet "Perfect."
"I have an email address that I email [to get in touch with Beyonce] that actually changes every week," Sheeran told Entertainment Tonight. "She's very good at [hiding]."
The song, which dropped last Thursday, had actually been in the pipeline since May, but was kept under wraps.
"Obviously she had twins [in June], and we finished [the song] in September, so I've been holding onto it since then," Sheeran explained. He went on to reveal that he and Beyonce — who nailed the vocals in one take (NBD) — did a ton of work together on the song's instrumentals.
"The original version of 'Perfect' was just an acoustic guitar and she rung me up and was like, 'I don't know how you feel about this but I've taken all the instruments off it and it's just gonna be acoustic guitar,' and I was like, 'Ah that's great, because it used to be that!'" he said. "Then when we got in together, it wasn't so much notes, it was very much like a back and forth thing, like, 'What'd you think of this?' Or 'What do you think of this?' and [we were] probably in the studio for four hours."
"Perfect" already has over 20 million views on Youtube. Check it out below.
