Bill Cosby has been charged with aggravated indecent assault and an arrest warrant has been issued.
According to The Associated Press, the charges are in relation to the alleged sexual assault of Andrea Constand in 2004. The case was reopened by Pennsylvania prosecutors after evidence surfaced in the form of previously-sealed court documents. Charges were brought against Cosby mere days before the 12-year statute of limitations would have run out.
Constad alleged that Cosby drugged and violated her during a visit to his home in 2004. After the Montgomery County district attorney chose not to take action, she sued Cosby on her own behalf. The case was settled out of court in 2006, though the details of the settlement have never been released.
Though more than 50 women have accused Cosby of sexual assault since the allegations began in the early 2000s, this is the first charge that has been levied against him.
