Whatever happened to Foxy Brown? Despite being featured as a special guest on Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday Tour, we haven't been hearing too much from the 90's rap goddess lately. That is, until this week, when the notoriously reclusive hip hopper came out of hiding ... to endorse Donald Trump?!
According to NY Daily News, despite Brown's lifelong commitment to the Democratic party, she's changing her tune in support of the real estate mogul turned dystopian political figure:
“No matter how many people sabotage his campaign, it keeps growing and growing and growing,” she said. “I know so many people won’t agree with me and will try to change my mind, but I’m a smart girl. I’m excited ... I haven’t been this excited in so long."
But what about Trump's endless and increasingly violent and vitriolic rhetoric towards non-white people? “I know people say he’s a racist," Brown added. "But that’s just crazy.”
The extent to which Foxy's support for Trump is unclear, although she certainly suggested she'd be involved in his campaign in some way in the future.
Other than questionable political decisions, what else can we expect from Foxy in the future? After recovering from health issues that affected her hearing and serving jail time for a handful of assaults, Brown is back in the recording studio and planning to drop an album and resume performing. Brown has also discussed turning down a proposed reality show that would have featured her, saying: "“It didn’t make sense for us ... You don't see any of the big stars doing that. Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige didn’t run in that direction. They kept their brand intact. We were like, no thank you. That just wasn’t for us.”
(Except, it turns out, Mariah is doing that reality show after all.)
While we ponder the various labyrinthine justifications one must make in order to express such bizarre political belief in public, you can relive your 90's nostalgia with this classic Foxy Brown jam:
UPDATE: Foxy Brown has since issued the following statement on Instagram to clarify her comments. She claims she was misrepresented by the New York Daily News, who has refused to respond.
