Gabrielle Union is opening up about a very personal struggle that many women can relate to.
In her new book We're Going to Need More Wine, the Being Mary Jane actress wrote candidly about her years-long struggle with infertility.
"I have had eight or nine miscarriages," reads an excerpt published by People. "For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I've either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle."
Union elaborated about the stressful process in an interview with People, explaining, "Once a month I look like I'm in my second trimester because I'm bloated. It leads to the questions and it leads to the rumors and any time I go into a doctor's office I feel like I'm a member of SEAL Team Six undercover because I don't want people to speculate."
Union, who's been married to NBA star Dwyane Wade for three years now, revealed that having children wasn't part of her game plan until she became a stepmother to Wade's three boys.
"I never wanted kids," she explained. "Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I'd rather be than with them."
Union's new book hits shelves on Oct. 17.
