Today is Nicki Minaj's birthday! The self-proclaimed queen of rap was born 33 years ago, today. Since then, she's broken barriers and inspired fans all over the world with her talent, charisma, and unwavering confidence.
Nicki has had quite the crazy year, though. She found love with fellow rapper Meek Mill, only to get dragged into his infamous beef with Nick's labelmate, Drake. She also made headlines for her own fair share of dram, and after her on-stage showdown with Miley Cyrus, Nicki single-handedly re-introduced "What's good?" back into our cultural lexicon.
She's had ample reason to celebrate too, however: her own wax model at Madame Tussaude's was unveiled earlier this year, she went on her third world tour, and she was named Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards for the 6th year in a row. As if that wasn't enough to celebrate, she even has a TV show based on her life in the works. Nicki was honored yet again at VH1's Big in 2015 event and used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to empower women: "No matter what field you’re in, go after your biggest dream. Do not settle. Do not allow people to tell you that you can’t do anything you put your mind to." Nicki is living proof of that, and will be capping off 2015 with not one, but three Grammy nominations: Best Rap Album ("The Pinkprint"), Best Rap Performance ("Truffle Butter"), and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("Only"). How's that for a birthday present?`
Here's to more wins in 2016!
