Tom Barrack, chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, explained to CNN why Kanye was never asked to perform, despite his burgeoning relationship with the president-elect.
"He's been great, he considers himself a friend of the president-elect, but it's not the venue," he said. "The venue we have for entertainment is filled out, it's perfect, it's going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great guy but we just haven't asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda." Watch below.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that "typically and traditionally American" is coded language for less polite opinions about rap music, but anyway. This is especially funny when you consider that, out of all the A-list artists who have been refusing to perform, Kanye is probably one of the only ones who would have jumped at the chance.
I sense a new Kanye rant in 3, 2, 1...
