How much money does Nas make over the course of one month? Spoiler: it’s more than most people probably make in a year. The rapper’s finances have become public knowledge during his ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Kelis.
The two are currently embroiled in a legal battle over their 8-year-old son Knight, after Kelis filed legal documents in February requesting an increase in the monthly $8,000 of child support a judge ordered Nas to pay five years ago, according to TMZ. As their legal battle continues to rage on, court documents obtained by TMZ offer a sneak peek into Nas’ finances, revealing that the “One Mic” rapper now makes about $175,000 per month from various sources like music and investments. His monthly expenses reportedly total $76,834.04, with $20,245.70 of that amount going toward helping family members, while another $15,000 is devoted to rent. Nas also reportedly has more than $8.3 million in the bank.
According to the New York City child support calculator, it looks like a noncustodial parent earning $175,000 a month would owe $321,300 in child support per year — or $26,775 per month. Then again, Nas’ legal situation may be more complicated than the average person’s.
A judge has yet to rule on the child support issue, TMZ reports. The former couple’s custody situation first hit a snag in April, when Nas accused Kelis of violating their court order by not allowing him to see their son over the Easter holiday, according to TMZ. This occurred just one month after the two co-parents settled on a joint custody agreement in court, according to TMZ.
The exes made headline news yet again last month, after Kelis alleged that Nas physically and mentally abused her during their five-year marriage.
“I’ve waited nine years to say anything. I have never talked about this man, ever,” Kelis told Hollywood Unlocked. “The amount of airing out that I could do, and I’ve chosen not to. Our kids will find out. They’re finding out now. I have never painted myself as a saint. Did he hit me? Mhm. Did I hit him back? Mhm.”
Nas did not respond to Kelis' allegations, though he did post a photo of him and son Knight on Instagram.
