Phubbing is snubbing your partner in favor of your phone. James A. Roberts of Baylor University has researched smartphone snubs and according to his study, it's a major problem. "People who reported being at the receiving end of phubbing also reported higher levels of conflict over smartphone use," he shares. "Not surprisingly, higher levels of smartphone-related conflict reduced levels of relationship satisfaction."
Something as simple as texting or scrolling Instagram on date night "undermined the quality of the relationship." The reason is twofold: One, the “Displacement Hypothesis,” says that being on your phone means less time with your partner, thereby straining the relationship. The other reason, “Smartphone Conflict Theory," says that the phone itself becomes a source of conflict and fighting.
Bottom line? Being on your phone is inconsiderate. So, put your phone down!
