Janet Jackson Is Getting Called A Gold Digger For Splitting From Her Husband

It's all in the timing. And the prenup.

The internet is ruthless. News broke yesterday that Janet Jackson split with her billionaire husband, Wissam Al Mana, only months after giving birth, and now the only thing anyone is talking about is the timing of the breakup.

Here's why Jackson's timing is raising some eyebrows. Al Mana is a literal billionaire, while Jackson's net worth is estimated to be between $175 million to $250 million. As TMZ pointed out, with the way prenuptial agreements are typically set up, payouts tend to be bigger at the 5 and 10 year marks. Jackson announced in February of 2013 that she'd gotten married a year earlier, which means Janet and Wissam split just at the 5 year mark; because of the timing, Janet could walk away from the relationship $500 million richer. Suspicious or nah? Some seem to think so.

Page Six talked to multiple sources close to the couple and while some claimed the split was amicable, others said it was a long time coming.

"She thought he had become too controlling during the pregnancy and she had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts," said one source, adding later, "It drove her crazy and she felt she was losing her fan base."

Plenty online also defended Jackson against those calling her a scammer, so she can rest knowing that her fan base is still going strong.
