It was the kick heard 'round the world.
When video leaked of Solange going in on Jay Z during an elevator ride, with Beyonce standing nearby in silence, the public went crazy trying to figure out what happened. The security footage didn't have any audio, so fans were left to theorize about what could have prompted Solange to try and physically attack her brother-in-law at the 2014 Met Gala. Many theorized that it was infidelity, but no one in the family would talk about it (though Beyonce did playfully reference it in one of her songs).
Jay Z has finally broken his silence, though. The rapper released his new album 4:44 today, and on "Kill Jay Z," references the iconic elevator fight.
"You egged Solange on. Knowin' all along, all you had to say you was wrong," he raps.
Wrong about what? Considering that 4:44 is full of references to cheating and doing Beyonce wrong, it's not too hard to guess what he could have been referring to. Or maybe he said something mean about Solange's dress and wouldn't take it back. Who knows? Still, it's widely believed that the elevator fight popped off because Solange spotted Jay chatting with his alleged side chick, Rachel Roy, during the event.
