Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner Fight For Trademark Over First Name

By Eric Shorey

The rule of Kylie -- much like the rule of Highlander -- is that there can be only one. For a time, Kylie Minogue reigned as this world's champion Kylie -- that is until she was supplanted by the ubiquitous Kylie Jenner. Now the two Kylies must engage in a death match to see which Kylie will reign supreme. And by death match we mean: lengthy and bizarre legal battle.

From Stereogum: "Reality star/Snapchatter/whatever Jenner has filed U.S. trademark applications for the term 'Kylie' in connection with both advertising and entertainment services, and Australian singer-songwriter Minogue’s representatives filed 'notices of opposition' to both applications this past week."

What could have easily been a well-mannered legal proceeding turned ugly rather quickly with Minogue's representatives claiming that: “Jenner is a ‘secondary reality television personality’ who has received criticism from disability rights groups and African-American communities.” Apparently, even being associated with Jenner would "dilute [Minogue's] brand."

Despite the shade, I'm on #TeamMingoue. 1) She was here first. 2) "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" is still one of the greatest pop songs ever made. And 3) I think Minogue would slay in a literal deathmatch.
