Beyonce and her father, Mathew Knowles, have had a very public falling out over the past several years. After the superstar fired him as her manager and he split from her mother—over his alleged infidelity—it was hard to see the Knowles-Carters as one big happy family. Mathew has been missing-in-action from family photos and the father-daughter duo no longer appears close in public. Not true, says Mathew. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, he claims that he’s not estranged from Beyonce and is more involved than we think.
“I don’t need to be in a photo. That’s not my role,” he says. “My role is as a manager, is not be in the front. I stay behind and make sure everything else goes right. So most of the time I never want to be up in the front.” So maybe he's the guy taking every photo we see? A few days ago, he revealed in another interview that he's a part of granddaughter Blue Ivy's life on a regular basis. “I spent the day with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé a couple of months ago,” he said. “And actually hope to see them next week or the week after and spend another day doing Play-Doh with Blue Ivy.”
As for Beyonce firing him as her manager after some two decades, Mathew doesn’t seem to hold any hard feelings. “I don’t know about you but I know for sure I don’t want to be around my parents as I got older. So I don't know why that comes as a surprise to anyone. At 30 years old, you're a grown a** woman. Do your stuff yourself. I’m happy that most of her team worked for me and I trained them. From her GM, to her road manager…they do an exceptional job.”
