It's 2016, and it's been a long time since the average family looked like the people on "Leave It To Beaver" and vintage Coca Cola ads. Some families have two dads, or two moms, or, heaven forbid, a mom who goes to work while the dad stays at home and takes care of the children.
Lego knows what's up though. During the debut of their Lego City line at the New York Toy Fair on Thursday, Lego revealed their soon-to-be-released stay-at-home dad and working mom figurines. The dad even has a stroller and a baby bottle.
"We need to stay in tune with the world around us. We aren't responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base," Lego president Soren Torp Laursen told Fortune.
Other cool new releases? A character in a wheelchair.
"We are all part of the same world and we need to portray that to the best of our abilities," Laursen said.
Kudos to Lego for taking action on the diversity front. Here's hoping there's even more to come.
