When will Nicki Minaj get the respect she deserves?
That's the question on everyone's minds, including Nicki's. The "No Frauds" rapper took to Twitter this week to share her thoughts on sexism in the world of hip hop; she started off by sharing a clip from a recent Rap Radar interview, where New Jersey rapper Russ spoke up about the impact Nicki has made in the world of music.
"Do people not know that like, Nicki Minaj has birthed so many females?" he said. "Not just in rap, but in [the way women look]. You gotta really do your research. She's been that sh*t for mad long now. Let's not act like she wasn't on a Jay Z and Kanye song [with] arguably the best verse."
Nicki retweeted a clip from the interview, writing, "This was so nice of you my love, thank you."
Nicki went on to point out the ridiculous double standards placed on women in just about every industry.
"In any field, women must work TWICE as hard to even get HALF the respect her male counterparts get. When does this stop?" she wrote in a series of tweets. "The greats collaborated w/Drake, Kendrick & Jcole b/c they're dope MC's. They collab'd w/nicki cuz someone pulled a gun to their heads..."
"Putting ppl in the same sentence as me after my 10 years of consistent winning. What are you teaching THEM? They'd never do this to a man," she continued.
To further prove her point, Nicki shared a super relevant tweet from Kendrick Lamar, posted 7 years ago, that reads, "Just realized. Moe n*ggaz hate nicki minaj than woman do."
Nicki wrote, "Kendrick's tweet from 7 years ago. This is so telling. And scary. I'd have to wear some baggy pants n timbs for men to openly give props."
